Some thoughts as to why Trump finally fired Bolton. Trump needs a diplomatic win before next year's elections. With the Afghan talks collapsing, no prospects for a deal with North Korea, China or Israel/Palestine, Iran is his last hope. But for that, Bolton had to be fired.
