There's a huge misunderstand as to why climate activists are now calling for radical action to address the climate and ecological emergency. Wrongly it is being assumed that they just want radical change to our societies, when in fact it is the only way to avert disaster.

1) If you take the 1992 Rio Earth Summit as a datum point, where all the world's countries and leaders essentially agreed to address the climate and ecological crisis, we can understand the situation.

2) 28 year ago we had two choices. a) To gradually reduce carbon emissions and slowly transition to a sustainable society. b) To wait, and then take far more radical action in the future i.e. now.

3) Governments and big business procrastinated, and put off taking action until well into the future. Well we're in this future now. It was their choice to do it this way, not environmentalists who were quite happy to have gradual change.

4) The problem is that governments and business is now talking about implementing the gradual change, which they should have started implementing 25 year or more ago. But it is too late for this now, and they only have themselves to blame.

5) All the modern climate change movement is doing is pointing out the reality. Don't blame them for the need to take radical action, but rather blame our governments and big business who put off taking gradual action over 25 years ago - when gradual change was still possible.
