My favourite memory of Fausto, is also one of my first in the whole MotoGP world I ended up entwined with for most of my life. The first GP I went to live was the '90 Australian GP when Dad worked for Rothmans. I was 10, and there was no real coverage of the lower classes. 1/5

So the first race of the day is the 125s and some 16 year old kid called Loris Capirossi is trying to wrap up the title. It's him vs Dutchman Spaan for the championship. Except it's not. It's Spaan vs Loris and a leading pack of about 20 fellow Italians, led by Fausto. 2/5

And they spend the entire race trying to shield Loris, helping him out, beating Spaan up. Fausto is the old hand here and he is being a right pain in the arse. At one point, mid race, Spaan actually thumps Fausto in the head! 3/5 youtube.com/watch?v=HknzW4…

It is absolutely, completely bonkers, and the sort of race that would NEVER happen now. I ask my Dad if this sort of thing is allowed and he laughs. This is the first ever Grand Prix race I saw in person and one of the major reasons I fell further in love with this sport. 4/5

It is proper 125 mayhem that makes modern Moto3 look like lawn bowls. Working in MotoGP on and off over my adult life I spoke with Fausto many times but never told him this story. Now I will never get the chance to either. Farewell Fausto. Thoughts with those close to you 5/5

TrunkmanUK氏は英国のマルチメディア映像プロデューサーです。 このレース、とみながも良く覚えています。弱冠16歳のカピロッシを海千山千のベテランイタリア人ライダーが守っている姿が印象的でした。 なおYoutubeのゼッケン５がグレジーニ、２がスパーンです。 #MotoGP_jp

ファウスト・グレジーニ。加藤大治郎やマルコ・シモンチェリといった天才ライダーを擁してGPを戦った名伯楽というイメージかもですが、125ccでは優勝21回、表彰台47回、1985年と87年にはタイトルを獲得した名ライダーでもありました。R.I.P. #MotoGP_jp
