"UNITED Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Thursday sent pre-positioned emergency supplies to the tsunami stricken island of Santa Cruz, Temotu Province."

"At least ten aftershocks were reported on Saturday, including a powerful 7.0 quake which forced villagers to flee to higher ground."

"Meanwhile, Australia's Foreign Minister Bob Carr will travel to Solomon Islands on Sunday to talk to authorities about the progress of recovery efforts.
Australia has already contributed $US250,000 to the Solomon Islands Red Cross and $50,000 to the National Disaster Management Office.
Senator Carr says an Australian patrol boat has also been deployed to help transport food and medical supplies to affected areas."

'Solomon Islands journalist Dorothy Wickham says Australia and New Zealand have volunteered to join the relief effort.
“These two countries might be helping out and maybe we also have the Japanese and European Union here, so I am pretty sure they will be either offering or will be asked for assistance," said Wickham. "But this is going to be a difficult one. It is a very remote place. Boats hardly go there and if it is bad weather it is really tough to get into the communities in that area.”'
