US Government has subpoenaed Twitter asking for @birgittaj and @ioerror's data - both worked with WikiLeaks at some point - Twitter's take?

Twitter receives subpoena for Icelandic MP's data. Why did they not use an NSL (& thus deny @amac from giving notice) http://is.gd/kkXL6

Twitter is not legally required to tell its users when it gets a subpoena from DOJ. It (@amac) chose to do so. Gutsy & very pro user.

@emptywheel Perhaps, but @ioerror received notice from Twitter too. He isn't a member of parliament, just a security researcher.

Talked with the Icelandic minister of Justice - he is now looking into the case of demands of DoJ wanting my twitter details.

Hypothetical DoJ chat: "What about Nadim Kobeissi?" "That little fuck?" "Yeah." "Whatever. How many megabits we need to subpoena Twitter?"

@ggreenwald I really, really hope I won't have to resort to heydepartmentofjustice.com this time around.

It is terrible that we live in times where we might see US questioning what is "reasonable expectation of privacy" as defined by 4th Amend.

@emptywheel What do you mean required 90/180 days? US has no data retention law. Twitter could choose not to log its users IPs at all
