As with all research, there are limitations with our approach. Namely: 1) It focuses most on what's measurable 2) Different goals require different strategies 3) We mostly focus on high-level strategy, not nuts and bolts tactics.

We think our findings aren't particularly groundbreaking, and support what other movement strategists have been saying for some time (e.g. Ayni Institute, @markjengler) However, it does add some weight to these statements, and hopefully offers some guidance to movement orgs

3. External factors have to be right Something we think isn't discussed enough, and potentially bad news for movement activists. We believe factors outside of a movement's control, such as pre-existing public opinion, elite supporters and luck will significantly impact outcomes.

2. Numbers matter a lot No surprise to those familiar with @EricaChenoweth's 3.5% finding - the size of a protest movement is likely to have a significant impact. E.g.
