@Rainmaker1973 The sculpture, translated to The Rape of Proserpina, depicts the Roman goddess Proserpina being kidnapped and carried off to the underworld by Pluto. The sculpture is on display at the Borghese Galleries.

@Rainmaker1973 It is about the abduction of Proserpina, the daughter of Jupiter and Ceres. While picking flowers, Proserpina was attacked by Pluto, the god of the dead, who burst from the earth in a chariot pulled by four black horses.

@Rainmaker1973 Gian Lorenzo Bernini was a master artist. And if you are ever in Rome check out the Villa Borghese. His masterpieces there are incredibly refined. He brings a stone like marble to life. One has to see it to believe it.

@Rainmaker1973 He tried to kill his mistress and his brother because, while cheating on her husband with Lorenzo, she went on to cheat on Lorenzo with his own brother. Both survived. Pope Urban VIII pardoned Lorenzo but was not so kind with Galileo.
