◆概要

　改マルチェロ級はマルチェロ級のマイナーチェンジ版で，カッペリーニ級と称することもある．
　性能諸元はマルチェロ級とほぼ同じ．
　1939年に「コマンダンテ・カッペリーニ」「コマンダンテ・ファー・ディ・ブルーノ Comandante Faà di Bruno 」の2隻が竣工．
　ファー・ディ・ブルーノは1940年10月31日にボルドーを出航後，1940年11月8日に連合軍のHX84船団を攻撃中，カナダ駆逐艦HMCSオタワと英駆逐艦HMSハーベスターの共同攻撃により撃沈さる．
　カッペリーニは輸送潜水艦に改造され，日本との連絡のために極東へ派遣．
　イタリア降伏後，日本海軍に接収され，1946年，海没処分となった．

It was the first time a Canadian warship gained contact with the enemy at sea during the Second World War. I am pleased that @HmcsYellowknife has a team from the UK sailing with us this week. A poignant reminder of the long and enduring connection between our two nations at sea.
