Unsure how much of a fan of tight continuity I am in "big universe" IPs. Implies meaningful stakes for stories, but is usually just messy.
2015-08-27 00:48:37I look at how Star Wars, Star Trek, and Marvel Comics all try to handle continuity, and I'm not sure which of those I find satisfying.
2015-08-27 01:28:25I find the problem with continuity is that the best writers are shackled by the ideas of the worst ones. twitter.com/mtgaaron/statu…
2015-08-27 01:32:34@mtgaaron The quality of previous continuity should inform choices. Sorin carrying around a comb and using singing magic... not so much.
2015-08-27 04:49:15THe Voice for Vorthos panel will be starting shortly! Head down to Seagate theater if you're here, keep an eye on this account if not!
2015-08-29 09:58:28Voice for Vorthos panel is starting! Incoming (minor) tweet flood! #PAXPrime
2015-08-29 10:02:28What is Vorthos? Vorthos is the name of one of four MTG player profiles. What motivates a player? What do they get out of a game?
2015-08-29 10:08:27Timmy/Tammy was the 1st of 3 original player profiles. Timmy ♥s big exciting plays & the visceral experience of MTG pic.twitter.com/sQWIV6AuF4
2015-08-29 10:08:27Johnny/Jenny builds complex, creative decks and loves combos. They show off creativity through deckbuilding. pic.twitter.com/I2Wl5gngex
2015-08-29 10:08:51Spike has an extremely competetive nature and plays to win. They enjoy the competition and the glory of victory. pic.twitter.com/KGHWCnpmMD
2015-08-29 10:08:51Vorthos collects cards for the art, reads MTG fiction, cosplays, lives for worldbuilding and adores MTG characters. pic.twitter.com/MPvDLrmGCm
2015-08-29 10:09:00On August 31, 2005 this 4th player profile (Vorthos) was identified. Vorthos loves story, lore and fan created works. pic.twitter.com/dJbFSsPhQW
2015-08-29 10:11:28Magic has entered a new era of storytelling. Stories are linear on Uncharted Realms and published every Wednesday! pic.twitter.com/HAoXIIsmeC
2015-08-29 10:12:49Pivotal events now also take place on cards, such as the gruesome slaughter at Sea Gate, now overrun by Eldrazi... pic.twitter.com/j37xxdimjn
2015-08-29 10:14:26Our unity in storytelling also carries into Magic Duels -- you'll be able to play through Battle for Zendikar story there as well!
2015-08-29 10:16:00Q&A time! First up, does "tight continuity" apply to reimagining character aspects for the better, correcting prior storylines, etc in Magic
2015-08-29 10:19:24We want to position our characters/story to make our game the best it is. Deciding what to prioritize is always part of the decision process
2015-08-29 10:20:49"We never want you to feel not rewarded for knowing things. There's a tipping point where we don't want to punish for not knowing either."
2015-08-29 10:22:27Q3: Why the changes in Nissa's storyline? Kimberly: We preserved the parts we loved and positioned her for where her storyline will go next.
2015-08-29 10:25:27What are the challenges in a time travel story? Doug: It was hard to portray the 'absence' of something so we could restore it later.
2015-08-29 10:27:53Jeremy J: Time travel is easy if one of the phases gets to be "dooky" and "haggard" and "hobo". Nobody wants a set of that.
2015-08-29 10:29:02Next up: How do I get my foot in the creative door at WotC? WotC is really horizontal -- lots of collaboration across departments.
2015-08-29 10:35:29Key to getting on the creative team at WotC? Do work that is adjacent to the kinds of work we already do and demonstrate it.
2015-08-29 10:38:00Re: mechanics: We always have creative representatives on the design and development team to make sure mechanics make sense w/ story.
2015-08-29 10:38:30Q: At SDCC Jenna alluded to the MTG Writer's Room. What's that like? A: We plan storylines, pivotal events, and decide who writes what.
