@Higgins82 Nothing wrong in principle in putting GW in quotation marks. When writing in English it’s assumed that you’re writing to an English native who doesn’t know what ‘Golden Week’ is.

@Higgins82 It would make sense in a statement like this: The period of time when Christians mark the death and resurrection of Christ is referred to as the “Easter” holiday.

@Peckitt That’s fine. But if you’re just telling someone about Golden Week it’s not necessary. Otherwise it looks like you’re being sarcastic or it’s not actually called Golden Week.

@Higgins82 @rallat In some shops they also have signs with ‘Our staff can speak “English”’. In a way I guess it’s true because they speak “English” and not English 😅

@Higgins82 @JaponMeneATout Ah Sunshine... Even worse on some case. I don't remember which of the 2 was using "there're" for "there are" and all JHS teacher unable to process that the Manual (capital, for them it is the Book) could be faulty. That's when I knew I should get out of teaching here...

@Higgins82 Sorry, but could you tell me why 'excited at' is unnatural? Is it because scenary is not something to be exciting? or because it's a grammatical error? I'm so curious.

@furiko_dearu You can be excited for something or excited to see something (in this case the scenery) but being excited “at” the scenery...it’s missing a noun. You can’t be excited “at” the noun but you can be excited by the noun. eow.alc.co.jp/sp/search.html…

@DrePigglesworth If the teacher is willing to work to fix it it’s fine. I’ve had teacher’s come to me and say “hey this is crap let’s not do it”. Then there are others that simply just don’t know it’s wrong and teach it anyway.
