Mamá Coco is played beautifully by legendary Mexican actress Ana Ofelia Murguía. #CocoWatchParty pic.twitter.com/lUCYrXkkgD

Coco’s Sets team hid some Easter Eggs from my favorite movie in the shot of Dante waking up. In the background you can see the axe from The Shining, as well as a red drum. Get it? Red…drum? REDRUM #CocoWatchParty

I wanted Miguel’s homemade guitar to look like it was really made by a kid, so I had my son, Max, copy De la Cruz’s guitar. Max also did all of the drawings and handwriting displayed on Miguel’s ofrenda to De la Cruz. #CocoWatchParty pic.twitter.com/CwGnFUn5b3

The sequence of Miguel playing along to the old De la Cruz movies grew from an early concept by @AdrianTheMolina. We needed to really FEEL Miguel’s deep love for De la Cruz, and his deep love for music. #CocoWatchParty

The character of Ernesto de la Cruz was inspired by many legends of Mexican cinema, such as Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete. #CocoWatchParty pic.twitter.com/kZ9RZ3IfJG

It was very important to me for all the musicians in Coco to really be playing their instruments. We filmed GoPro reference of the musicians playing, which the animators used to create their animation. #CocoWatchParty

Shout out to the voice of Papá, @jaimecamil — a wonderful actor who probably wondered why we never asked him to sing! Wouldn’t have worked out too well with a mother like Abuelita… #CocoWatchParty pic.twitter.com/w1Eh0K6XYU

On a research trip to Mexico, I saw a dog trying to sneak in and eat food off the family ofrenda. That inspired this gag with Dante. #CocoWatchParty

We tried hard to make Abuelita a force to be reckoned with, while still being a doting, loving grandmother. #CocoWatchParty

Some early design sketches of Miguel. These are just a few of the hundreds — perhaps THOUSANDS — we created before landing on Miguel’s look. #CocoWatchParty pic.twitter.com/VUeWgaEotq

This drawing, by @galstyan911, was the one that most inspired Miguel’s look in the film. @galstyan911 pic.twitter.com/WYIUVgdWzh

We spent a LONG time deciding upon the color of Miguel’s hoodie. We looked at hundreds of color and design combinations. We went with red so Miguel would stand out on screen. The white stripes were meant to mimic skeleton arm bones when he’s in disguise. #CocoWatchParty

Miguel accidentally shifting the lid of De la Cruz’s tomb is something I put in that must have come from my dark side. I didn’t want audience to forget that this was probably kind of scary for Miguel to be in here. #CocoWatchParty

This was the most complicated shot in Coco. It was the result of a TON of work by some very talented people across many disciplines. I think we had a wrap party just for this one shot! #CocoWatchParty pic.twitter.com/e0vlWAYm37
