I wanted Miguel’s homemade guitar to look like it was really made by a kid, so I had my son, Max, copy De la Cruz’s guitar. Max also did all of the drawings and handwriting displayed on Miguel’s ofrenda to De la Cruz. #CocoWatchParty pic.twitter.com/CwGnFUn5b3

The sequence of Miguel playing along to the old De la Cruz movies grew from an early concept by @AdrianTheMolina. We needed to really FEEL Miguel’s deep love for De la Cruz, and his deep love for music. #CocoWatchParty

It was very important to me for all the musicians in Coco to really be playing their instruments. We filmed GoPro reference of the musicians playing, which the animators used to create their animation. #CocoWatchParty

We spent a LONG time deciding upon the color of Miguel’s hoodie. We looked at hundreds of color and design combinations. We went with red so Miguel would stand out on screen. The white stripes were meant to mimic skeleton arm bones when he’s in disguise. #CocoWatchParty
