@query1000 It's not just an NBC thing. Many other broadcasters and sports federations want that same calendar as well. Works out for them to schedule around the Olympics that way.

@query1000 Most countries have Olympic rights held by 1 media company. Only in Japan is it spread over multiple companies. They are the exception rather than the rule. Calling it a monopoly is technically true, but that's no different than how many other sports' TV rights operate

@query1000 Your summary is factually incorrect. Tokyo bid for the Olympics offering them up in July/August to appease many companies, not just NBC. It is not solely be their request. If you don't want to change your opinion, know that your opinion is wrong.

@query1000 It's not harmful, but it's still incorrect. NBC is *one of the reasons* the Olympics are held in July/August. They are not the only reason. I understand you see that, but it's important to acknowledge that when the Olympics are held is not because of NBC's request or demands

@query1000 Japan bid for the Olympics and proposed to hold them in the Summer because they knew if they wanted to hold them in September or October, they would be less likely to have been selected to host the Olympics and another city offering them in the summer would have won.

@query1000 Yes, there is no doubt NBC is one of the reasons for that. But it's not as if they talked directly to the Japanese organizers and said "you must have your Olympics in July and August." They do not have a direct vote on the host city. Only an outside influence due to money

@query1000 That's exactly it. Remember the Olympic host city is chosen by vote and part of a city's bid is to propose what month they would hold the Olympics. Doha, Qatar proposed an October Olympics and the IOC wouldn't consider them. Very possible could have been the same with Tokyo
