.@everstake_pool actually had funny beginnings. First I intended to launch an exchange believing that people would really need an institutionalized bridge between crypto and banking. It soon became clear how terribly, mind-bogglingly wrong I was.

People who chose crypto did that because of the paradigm it represents, because of the newly-acquired freedom from the shackles of banks and all those restrictions they represent. This was the first major blow to my original idea of an exchange, and then along came the second.

It came in the form of @binance entering the Ukrainian market. There was literally no sense in trying to compete with that, so I scrapped the whole idea. In hindsight, it was the right decision. Running an exchange is actually a nightmare, and I wouldn’t want a life like that.

Just imagine. Someone is always trying to hack you. You must ensure 24/7 support, no matter what. You must have an entire team of risk managers. Yes, it might have made me much wealthier than I am, but at what cost? Is a wretched psyche worth it? I think not.

But anyway, the endeavor gave my team and myself much experience. We already had DevOps engineers and running nodes, so switching to validation was much easier than if we had done it from scratch. And being a non-custodial service is better, after all.

And no, the irony is not lost on me. Considering the evil of validator CEXs I recently talked about, it’s really ironic that @everstake_pool started off with the idea of being an exchange. But, as they say, how the tables turn. Now I’m happy that things turned out this way.
