@theinformantofc How much water are they dumping? That animation makes it look like it's an extreme amount. I just have a hard time believing that is accurate.

@theinformantofc Japanese people pay the most attention to food safety, Japanese people are the most humble and polite, Japanese toilet water can be drunk, Japanese people wash the dishes seven times. How ironic.

@theinformantofc Experts are divided on the potential impact of the water on the global ocean. Some believe that the levels of tritium in the water are too low to cause any harm. Others are concerned that the water could accumulate in marine life and pose a long-term risk.

Yes, Japan has announced that it will start releasing treated radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea on Thursday, August 24, 2023. The water has been treated to remove most radioactive isotopes, but it will still contain tritium, a radioactive form of hydrogen.

@theinformantofc Good of you to do this...BUT... according to my research this was the experts model of water released in 2012, just after the meltdown. Does GEOMAR scientists have a new model related to the current plan of the Japanese Government? If yes, please re-publish that one.

@theinformantofc I can't understand the psychology of polluting seawater in a country surrounded by the sea and feeding on the sea.

@theinformantofc This shows spread of cesium 137 which has been removed from the water which makes this timelapse useless

@theinformantofc This begs the question. If the water were without inherent danger why not repurpose it for their own population?

@theinformantofc This is from a 2012 paper on the original accident's release of cesium-137 into the ocean. The wastewater released now has been treated to remove cesium. Tritium is the major☢️component. Tritium in the water needs to be simulated differently to be valid. iopscience.iop.org/article/10.108…
