リンク Iconfactory Blog Push Nope-ifications • The Breakroom Today we’re rolling out an update for Twitterrific on iOS and macOS that addresses upcoming changes with how apps interact with Twitter. Unfortunately, these changes hinder the ability of third-party apps like Twitterrific to do push notifications and liv 5 users 18

@steve228uk @TwitterAPI @Iconfactory I agree, that’s a great blog entry. The universe has changed. It doesn’t mean we love developers any less.

@andypiper @steve228uk @TwitterAPI @Iconfactory I don't know if you love Twitter devs but you really hate Twitter users who opt for a third party client.

@Sonikku_a2 @TwitterAPI @BigZaphod Hi Robert! I’ve been supporting devs on Twitter professionally for nearly 5 years. That API is 10 years old, and we cannot sustain it any more. We’ve released a webhook based alternative. What are your specific issues? I directly speak with @Twitterrific as often as I can.

@andypiper @Sonikku_a2 @TwitterAPI @Twitterrific Yeah please go easy on Andy and the other developer relations people - this wasn’t their call and they’ve done the best they can.

@BigZaphod @andypiper @Sonikku_a2 @TwitterAPI @Twitterrific These folk answer a lot of tough questions internally and externally and do it with grace and civility despite how they are treated. Respect

@TwitterAPI Is the iOS app getting timeline streaming?

2018-08-14 03:22:20
Andy Piper @andypiper

@apollozac @TwitterAPI It has never supported that - pull to refresh?

Zac Hall @apollozac

@andypiper @TwitterAPI I know, other iOS apps have it but are losing it

not an official statement but Twitter technical emphasizing that the platform doesn't want third party clients any more, which is very sad for the many users who *do* want third party clients twitter.com/andypiper/stat…

Andy Piper @andypiper

@marypcbuk Mary - I've used third party clients myself for over 10 years (myself mostly Tweetbot, but I don't intentionally choose faves). Twitter - before i joined as an employee - de-emphasised client APIs in ~2011

Andy Piper @andypiper

@marypcbuk Since I've been here (starting 2014) I've done everything I can to get to know the devs who build those apps and to support them. There are practical reasons why eg live video and group DMs cannot be easily added to those.

Mary Branscombe @marypcbuk

@andypiper I'm sure the new APIs do better things than the current APIs; there are still plenty of users who *don't want* to use the official Twitter clients and will want third party clients. Twitter not wanting third party clients doesn't change what users want

Mary Branscombe @marypcbuk

@andypiper I want a client for Windows Phone that doesn't take 5 hours off my battery life the way the official Twitter PWA client does. other people want Twitterific or whatever their favourite 3rd party client is

2018-08-14 06:55:07
Mary Branscombe @marypcbuk

@andypiper it's great that you're working to support third party clients as much as you are, but you still keep sounding like they should just go away because Twitter 'de-emphasized' them and that's not what many users want
