My first twitter post. So I'll start at the top and work my way down. Porcupine Tree are at #1 in the UK album charts holding off Harry Styles. We can't resist much longer! officialcharts.com/chart-news/por…

Harridan seemed like the obvious first song to release from the album, since it has a bit of everything that people associate with PT. #TimsTwitterListeningParty

The grooves, the metal riffs, the ambient sound design, the singer songwriter ballad moments, and most importantly a sense of journey in the way the track unfolds. #TimsTwitterListeningParty

The way the album begins is not something you’ve ever heard from @PorcupineTree before, an almost funky bass groove! Although of course it’s in 5, just to make it more complicated 😀 #TimsTwitterListeningParty

The basic structure of Harridan was one of the first things jammed by myself and Gav nearly 10 years ago. Gav was laying down drum grooves and I was coming up with riffs on a five string bass. #TimsTwitterListeningParty

Even the chorus and the big metal riff in the middle was written on the bass. #TimsTwitterListeningParty

I was sitting on a plane in Johannesburg, waiting for it to take off, and this idea for a drum rhythm came to my head. So, I wrote the rhythm down on the back of my boarding pass and really liked it! - GH #TimsTwitterListeningParty

The next time I saw @stevenwilsonhq a couple of months later, we jammed around my idea from the plane and it eventually became Harridan! - GH #TimsTwitterListeningParty

Apart from some minimal overdubbed keyboard parts, the backing track I took away from the jams was only a lot of alternating bass and drum patterns. #TimsTwitterListeningParty

Not the easiest to turn into a song, but I’m very pleased with the way Harridan turned out, kind of an archetypal PT song. #TimsTwitterListeningParty

I brought Of The New Day to Gav’s place one day pretty much finished, expecting him to work out what I had done! #TimsTwitterListeningParty

Of The New Day is an optimistic song in sentiment, although being PT there is of course a tinge of darkness around the edges. #TimsTwitterListeningParty

My plan was to have a ballad where the time signature was constantly changing, but not being a trained musician I wasn’t quite sure what I had done. Gav worked out that there are around 50 changes of time signature throughout. #TimsTwitterListeningParty

One of the things I love about PT is that things that are quite accessible on the surface can also have sophistication and complexity if you want to look for it. #TimsTwitterListeningParty
