2022-10-02 00:02:001/10 As you probably know, @solana ran into a halt earlier tonight (at least, it was the night where our DevOps live). By early morning, it was up and running, yet do you know at what price? Here’s how it went: pic.twitter.com/qz8Y0mPNws
2022-10-02 01:34:502/10 Our alarm went buzzing at 23:45 EEST yesterday. One minute later, we found some panic growing on Discord. As we started checking our nodes, we discovered that all of them stopped at block 153139220. pic.twitter.com/Ganq6H6qtJ
2022-10-02 01:36:433/10 It turned out that the validator Winter Validator was spamming the network. We had to block it, but the problem persisted. Some people were just saying it was late and that it’s better to go to sleep and wake up to a fixed blockchain.
2022-10-02 01:37:064/10 By 3:20 AM today we decided to quit the fray and re-launch with snapshots from block 153139220 and confirmed that it would be wiser to stay on version 1.10.30 rather than go with 1.13.1 as some validators suggested earlier. @knox_trades pic.twitter.com/cBk2j1xxEK
2022-10-02 01:37:465/10 So, we were among the first to start re-launching + we made our snapshots publicly available. Overall, 6.73 TB of snapshots was downloaded from us, i.e. 192 times 35 Gb (which is the weight of the snapshot). The speed was over 800 MiB. pic.twitter.com/D93k83HgaF
2022-10-02 01:38:106/10 By 8:55 AM EEST we finally had the consensus with 80% of the staking power. So the network went back online and everything was fine again.
2022-10-02 01:38:247/10 There are several valuable lessons here. First of all, sadly, some validators were just unavailable at the most critical time. Guys, you would better monitor the network 24/7 like our DevOps. Things don’t necessarily go smooth every time.
2022-10-02 01:38:428/10 The second lesson is for the community. While professional validators may be seen as divulging from the ideals of decentralization, it is they who can put the network back together if something goes wrong. So maybe there should be more support from the community.
2022-10-02 01:39:029/10 Anyway, now the network is back on its feet, so all’s well that ends well. But we shouldn’t let this experience just pass on and teach us nothing. We have drawn our conclusions. Hopefully, other validators would do that, too.
2022-10-02 01:39:1910/10 Thanks to the community and all the validators for ensuring coverage and working hard to put @solana back on track! Guys, you are the best! Others should learn from your example.
2022-10-02 01:39:42One does not simply announce @MarkHamill as an ambassador without instantly receiving a lot of memes from Star Wars fans and #fellas (you guys are kind of a modern version of the Ewoks who joined the resistance of the empire, only much earlier than in the movies 💪) #StarWars pic.twitter.com/WqlCKVZPo2
2022-10-02 02:06:34New memes from subscribers are welcome in the comments. Meme the Force be with you!

2022-10-02 04:16:26@MarkHamill Polish or not, дякуємо за підтримку! The main thing is we all remember, how it went down for the Empire's fleet in the end🙂
2022-10-02 05:02:331/9 Recently we held a panel discussion at the Harvard Club NYC on Ukraine's crypto fundraising of $60M. Back then, Denise de Murcie of @CoinDesk brought up an interesting topic of whether the Tornado Cash sanctions impacted the inflow of donations to 🇺🇦 pic.twitter.com/JotoedUlPz
2022-10-02 04:34:182/9 @realDannyNelson pointed out that @TornadoCash was a service mixing up the chain of transactions, i.e. used to hide the origins of funds. It stands to reason that the authorities would see it as a potential money laundering mechanism. pic.twitter.com/llgUMQ5j3b
2022-10-02 04:36:153/9 The reason behind the sanctions was the fact that scammers used the service to launder millions and 🇰🇵 used it to get the crypto they stole to bypass the international sanctions. This prompted the closure of the service.
2022-10-02 04:36:384/9 @Austin_Federa argued that totalitarian regimes like russia still have those who stand against the war and the dictatorship. They may want to help 🇺🇦 financially and a DAO might be their only way to do that without triggering Big Brother. pic.twitter.com/cvzkY2EBIl
2022-10-02 04:38:415/9 He added that it was a tool that could be used by people when their physical safety could be compromised, or it could be a tool that a rogue state uses to build a nuclear weapon. The problem, therefore, is that the technology is run by people.
2022-10-02 04:39:106/9 @realDannyNelson said then that Tornado Cash fell because the government didn’t care about the actual needs of the platform’s users and just decided to kill it off altogether.
