ノーベル賞によって認められる業績には、人々と国家間のオープンさ、交流、対話が必要です。 ノーベル財団は、ノーベル賞の価値観を共有しない人も含め、すべての人にこのメッセージを届けたいと考えています。

Several Swedish lawmakers said Friday they would boycott this year's Nobel Prize ceremonies after the private foundation that administers the prestigious awards changed its policy to invite Russia, Belarus and Iran, which were previously barred from attending. The Nobel Foundation said invitations to the 2023 events had been sent to all countries with diplomatic missions in Sweden and Norway, as it "facilitates the opportunity to convey the important messages of the Nobel Prize to everyone." The executive director of the Nobel Foundation, Vidar Helgesen, in his statement emphasized the existence of a global tendency to reduce dialogue "between those who hold different views." He explained the expansion of the list of invitees to the ceremony with the desire to prevent this. According to his conviction, the participants, in particular, and those who were not invited to participate last year, "will understand the Nobel Prize and the importance of free science, free culture and free, peaceful societies." The 2022 Nobel Peace Prize was shared by the imprisoned Belarusian human rights defender Ales Bialiatskyi, the Russian group "Memorial" and the Ukrainian organization "Center for Civil Liberties". The award was perceived as a sharp rebuke to the authoritarian rule of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson told the Swedish news agency TT that he would not allow Russia to attend if it was his choice. Jag såg fram emot att delta under ceremonin och Nobelfesten. Men så länge Ryssland bedriver sitt krig mot Ukraina kan jag inte delta på samma fest som deras ambassadör. Jag firar gärna forskning och framsteg, men inte under vilka omständigheter som helst.

I welcome the new decision of the board of the Nobel Foundation regarding the Nobel Prize award ceremony in Stockholm. The many and strong reactions show that the whole of Sweden unambiguously stand on Ukraine’s side against Russia’s appalling war of aggression.
