Background of SNES/SFC music and a secret of Follin's composition
2012-08-28 12:43:12@aka_obi I'm so fond of the SFC's audio chip :) lovely bit of h/w there! Tim's stuff was ridiculously nice too :D
2012-08-29 00:05:48@aka_obi I still think one of the most underrated SFC soundtracks is Neugier <3 wonderful stuff in that game.
2012-08-29 00:06:34@_lemon That's for sure :) Do you know @osoumen's C700, an AudioUnit plug-in that emulates SPC700? You might like it. http://t.co/KzpC4CEC
2012-08-29 00:43:11@aka_obi aww brill :D hehe keep meaning to make a snes sampler to run on h/w - just lack of time :(
2012-08-29 00:44:45@_lemon Very nice selection and digging ;D I guess you are a fan of YMO. My fav one is The Lost Viking. Funky beats by Charles Deenen <3
2012-08-29 00:45:12@aka_obi hehe yes lovely stuff *Grin* no idea how people do not mention Neugier more - brill music+YMO connection+its great fun too! :D
2012-08-29 00:47:44@aka_obi hehe another good one for fun minimal beats is dolucky puzzle tour (not sure of correct Japanese name) secret stage music = <3
2012-08-29 00:48:43http://t.co/OvwuggBW <3 Neugier, music by Yukihiro Takahashi/YMO (off h/w too - I can tell as its got the correct bg noise :P)
2012-08-29 00:57:49@_lemon Maybe Neugier is, if anything, unremarkable in Japan, too. Your recommendation is cool. Recently SFC music becomes popular again.
2012-08-29 01:17:44@_lemon Some try to compose SPC MOD in JP chip scene. I wanna know how composers made SFC music and what "trackers" they used at the time.
2012-08-29 01:18:45@aka_obi I have the neugier cart here somewhere hehe :D for the music? ppl either had their own driver/replay (asm) or used bespoke trackers
2012-08-29 01:20:51@aka_obi looping sounds was tricky - a lot of people used to just code the tunes (tim did) but some had special tools targeting the h/w
2012-08-29 01:21:32@aka_obi its a shame so many of the tools are lost now :( pals in my group even lost old mod->snes converter due to busted amiga hd -doh- :D
2012-08-29 01:22:18@_lemon The amiga is worthy of a better cause. BTW if I remember correctly coda @codatrigger used .IT > Snes converter in some way.
2012-08-29 02:10:38.@_lemonさんにSFCのVGMがいかに作られたかきいてみたところ、興味深い回答をいただいたのでRT。mod->snesコンバータはやはり存在したのですね!
2012-08-29 01:28:58@aka_obi http://t.co/OelOTQ0i here is one of the Factor 5 sfc dev units, lots of action over the spc chip :) \o_
2012-08-29 01:27:15@aka_obi http://t.co/AwpQ5PpE - here is a modern .IT > Snes converter + source code btw m8 :)
2012-08-29 01:38:07@_lemon Many thanks for the info! Ah, mysterious art/technique is still mysterious, but these facts interest me :D
2012-08-29 01:48:28@aka_obi happy to bore u to death more about the snes/sfc *grin* just remind me or ask anytime u need info m8 \o_ lovely machine!
2012-08-29 01:50:18@aka_obi @_lemon anyone know what Follin used? His music sounds so trackerly
2012-08-29 01:53:01@LouisGorenfeld @aka_obi afaik he coded it but there was also a bespoke midi interface+system they could use back then to preview sfx/music
2012-08-29 01:55:47@_lemon I have wondered - "Why .MOD > Snes converter is not found? Nevertheless .XM > Snes and .IT Snes converters are exists."
2012-08-29 02:00:47@aka_obi prob because the SPC chip has envelope control and both those formats let u control the env. of a sound natively + more channels
2012-08-29 02:04:57@aka_obi ppl were doing stuff in Oktamed for ex. -> converting that to SPC format (as 8chn too) many yrs ago too
