IRA did not "forswear violence" to enter peace process nor give up weapons. It did declare a ceasefire however.

IRA declared 1st ceasefire on 31 Aug 1994 and ended it on 9 Feb 1996, with large bomb in London that killed 2. Ceasefire resumed 20 Jul 97
