@eclectictwit @KrauthBen @AdamJKucharski I'm glad you are being careful. Some think it out and take precautions, others need fear of bad outcomes, some just need government rules. Whatever works.

@5Explorer @KrauthBen @AdamJKucharski I'm sorry but I'm going to disagree. I think the govt rules come w risks that IMO dwarf the risks of Covid. I'm far more afraid of a social credit system / police state than I am of the virus even tho high risk. I'm hoping events of the past few wks start to wake more people up.

@eclectictwit @KrauthBen @AdamJKucharski I guess we each have different fears. That said, I live in AB and don't trust our government one bit.

@andycaddell @statsepi @AdamJKucharski Yet UK teachers are panicking about all the COVID19 in schools no one is talking about.

@hsom113 @billybillson12 @AdamJKucharski They're actually in an okay position. They've vaxxed a good portion and just need to approve vax for kids and get to about 90% vax rate. The only issue is that if they do open up, regardless of vax rate, there'll be many hospitalizations due to lack of past infection protection

@AdamJKucharski France, high vaccination rates (mostly with mRNA vaccines), falling incidence ratios, well-functioning vaccine passport and people generally wearing masks (based on own observations)

Paul Nuki @PaulNuki

@AdamJKucharski Portugal must be one of the best placed. 88% fully vaxed; good adherence to low cost NPIs; good political consensus on way ahead

@AdamJKucharski China. Systems learned and in place to deal with all levels of outbreak, inbound quarantine, high vaccine uptake. Life back to normal and the apparatus there ready if needed.

@jon_the_d @AdamJKucharski Normal = a police/surveillance state. Not something I would wish for any population

Cardinal Pirelli @cardinalpirelli

@AdamJKucharski Small countries that can (and have the will to) keep control of who comes in and out and whose people listen to, and act on, strong public health advice. Worse off are larger countries with leaky borders, vague public health messaging and a large proportion of anti-vaxxers.

@AdamJKucharski From my rather limited analysis of the sort of data/political context which can answer this question, the most obvious candidates for me would be Singapore, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Uruguay, but I'd be far more interested in your thoughts on this!

Nada @DamienSBS

@AdamJKucharski Still has to be NZ. They have extremely low / close to zero local transmission and are essentially COVID free. Zero long COVID legacy to deal with. Where they go from here is entirely their decision - A luxury of choice that most nations lost in the early days of the pandemic.

Chris @Chelseachemist1

@DamienSBS @AdamJKucharski NZ still have their covid epidemic ahead of them though, they’ll have to open up to the world at some point

@AdamJKucharski Italy. Smart leader, high vax rate, traumatic collective experience that nobody ever wants to relive.

Tweetzsche @WiseMoriarty

@AdamJKucharski Any medically-sophisticated country with high vaccine uptake + high level of acquired immunity + no restrictions is where I would choose to be. UK, Denmark good examples.

@AdamJKucharski No love for Portugal? Very high vaccination percentage and decent case numbers that are falling fast.

@AdamJKucharski Those countries who go into winter with low infection rates ie not the U.K.

Eric mit C @Eric_mit_C

@AdamJKucharski Depends on the factors. As a German I think our huge ICU per capita capacities and having Biontech as a domestic supplier of massive mRNA vaccine stockpiles helps alot with regard to mitigation of further epidemic waves and the need to inject tweaked vaccines in case of escape v.

Eric mit C @Eric_mit_C

@AdamJKucharski If you think nocovid is sensible you would look elsewhere entirely. If you rely mostly on maximized vaccine acceptance and uptake dito. It's really difficult to say. It's easier to say what place is in a rough situation: the entire world outside of industrialized countries.

@AdamJKucharski i. italy we have normal routines, although I can’t say it is all under control. we have a plateau now. last year worst period was october november, so we will see if we are under control in a short time. however we have normal activities Id say
