Saying "people are struggling just to keep warm and have enough food" is not a very good excuse to avoid being a climate activist, if you yourself have enough food and warmth. Also, understand that rampant climate breakdown will make things MUCH worse for vulnerable people.

When you set a goal to stay below 2°C of global heating (or even 1.5°C, almost certainly now out of reach), it sets the expectation that these are somehow "safe" levels. This was a mistake. In reality, we lose more with every bit of emissions and these levels aren't at all safe

We are losing the Earth, irreversibly, and for the most idiotic of reasons: the rich. The richest 10% contribute almost half of global GHG emissions, while the world’s poorest 10% contribute less than 5%. The richest 1% account for 50% of aviation emissions.

The gap between what the science is saying and how world leaders and the public are responding is so vast that I often have to pinch myself by going back to the scientific findings. Yes, this is all really happening; no, I’m actually not being alarmist.
