@davidmweissman @libsoftiktok Retail in most stores isn't like it used to be. Most companies won't allow any employee to stop a shoplifter for safety reasons. Shoplifting defense is entirely gathering evidence until the shoplifter hits whatever threshold the state considers prosecutable.

@davidmweissman @libsoftiktok I believe they are protecting the workers and shoppers in the store. The stuff on the shelves is just stuff (marked up 200% or more). They have insurance. In addition to physical injury, a single lawsuit could cost them 100’s of times the value of some things from the shelves.

@davidmweissman @libsoftiktok Most stores don’t have security and if they do, they aren’t allowed to do anything. ANYTHING. My husband is a retail store manager and even if you’re watching them clear the shelves you can literally be fired for saying they’re stealing. Just saying the words can get you fired.

@libsoftiktok I don’t see a problem with this if this is what voters want. It’s a privilege to live in a country where cities and states can experiment and see what works best. Communsim is about sharing the products of labor and so they share. Nobody got hurt here
