President Obama: 'Michelle and I are shocked and saddened by the horrific and tragic shooting in Colorado' - White House Statement
2012-07-20 20:17:39Prayers and thoughts go out to the victims of the Aurora shooting and their families and friends.
2012-07-20 20:56:11I'm angry. Upset. Frustrated. Can someone please explain to me why anyone in America SHOULD own an AK rifle? Why does ANY citizen need that?
2012-07-20 21:04:11I'm serious. Not talking about "taking all your guns away," I'm talking about LIMITS to that level of fire power. No one NEEDS an AK rifle.
2012-07-20 21:08:19@DanSlott @bookishbelle Every1 should own 1. If a law abiding gun owner had been there, they might have killed that guy after few shots
2012-07-20 21:09:22.@jamesryan No. Everyone should NOT own one. If a "law abiding" person there ALSO had an AK rifle, things would have been WORSE.
2012-07-20 21:11:50.@jamesryan The person there had 4 guns. I'm not even talking about the hand guns they had. I'm talking about the AK Rifle. Who NEEDS that?
2012-07-20 21:13:16@DanSlott @jamesryan should we outlaw knives, hammers, nail guns etc? I'm not being glib. How far do you take protecting society frm itself?
2012-07-20 21:54:55.@djb_in_cbus @jamesryan Owning an AK rifle to me is on par w/ someone having access to a bazooka. No citizen needs that level of firepower.
2012-07-20 21:57:18I'm listening to a police officer describe the AK rifle as a "military grade weapon." No more American citizen should own this TYPE of gun.
2012-07-20 21:15:57@DanSlott so hypothetically, you don't care if authorities feel no hesitation our worry storming your home if they decide on a whim?
2012-07-20 21:18:08.@MayhemComics Yes. I have NO reasonable fear of the "authorities" or others "storming my home." No citizen NEEDS that much firepower.
2012-07-20 21:22:26@DanSlott @mayhemcomics I don't think that is a reasonable fear to have if you aren't doing something wrong or hiding something.
2012-07-20 21:24:12@TheOtherMarioC @DanSlott everyone, that is hypothetical. Never said that was my position, aHYPOTHETICAL/devils advocate thought. Ty
2012-07-20 21:26:24We SHOULD have limits to what arms we can own. It's common sense. Can you own a bazooka? A nuclear bomb? NO! AK rifles should be illegal.
2012-07-20 21:18:45@DanSlott There are limits. If the rifle is only capable of semi then its no more than a rifle with expensive ammo And you can own a bazooka
2012-07-20 21:57:30.@RivalGoalie_BTP Seriously? You can own a bazooka? Is this for real? What world are we living in? I don't understand this at all.
2012-07-20 21:59:14@DanSlott Yes you can legally own a rocket launcher. But, the bg check and yearly annual fee for said license is roughly 4k.
2012-07-20 22:10:53.@RivalGoalie_BTP I have to be honest with you, that terrifies me.
2012-07-20 22:16:44Yes. I could happily live in a world where "collectors" aren't allowed to have AK rifles in their collections. Get a non-working replica.
2012-07-20 21:24:48If people can "illegally" obtain an AK rifle "anyway," DOESN'T mean they SHOULD be available legally. Common sense needs to start somewhere.
2012-07-20 21:27:33@DanSlott Blaming a piece of metal and not the shitheads who didn't notice a guy with a rifle walking into a theater.
2012-07-20 21:29:58.@AllenRicketts Trying to reasonably look at 1 facet of this. I agree w/ u. But I don't think that should stop us from asking THIS question.
2012-07-20 21:33:53No. I'm not "blaming the NRA." I'm not pointing that finger. I'm asking a reasonable question: Why does ANY (cont) http://t.co/9Kb4tqPO
2012-07-20 21:42:43@DanSlott in Canada, there are plenty of hobbyists that have organized shooting competitions, you can be interested in guns w/o killing
