2 million British soldiers were killed in WW1 & WW2, but 17 villages suffered no fatalities during either. I’m documenting all 17 of the UK’s Doubly Thankful Villages for the first time. Please read more about The Lucky 17 here, and consider backing: kck.st/2vHSss8 pic.twitter.com/ToMtQv0cke

Fact Point @FactPoint

In the UK there are 53 ‘Thankful Villages’ where all of the troops that left to fight in WWI returned alive. Of that list 13 are 'Doubly Thankful’ and had the same fortune in WWII. pic.twitter.com/bfcS4xgRAY

South Elmham St Michael, newly redone on my Suffolk Churches site. Small, more prominent for sitting alone in a scattered parish of farms and cottages. A Norman church largely rebuilt in the 14c, its roofline altered more recently. 1/3 More: suffolkchurches.co.uk/selstmike.html pic.twitter.com/Du8rI2xmmd

2/3 The interior at South Elmham St Michael is pleasingly simple, plain furnishings, brick floors, no coloured glass. A nice setting for Albert Lemmon's 1930s reredos, East Anglian missionary saints St Fursey and St Felix flanking St Michael. More: suffolkchurches.co.uk/selstmike.html pic.twitter.com/Y8opyYsLyE

3/3 South Elmham St Michael was one of the 30-odd Thankful Villages, which lost no boys to WWI. There are only four others in East Anglia, Culpho and Wordwell in Suffolk, Strethall, Essex and Toft, Cambs, though only the last of these is really a village. suffolkchurches.co.uk/selstmike.html pic.twitter.com/fLKU1Ct1Kf

Sad news from Lincolnshire. The lovely tower at St John the Baptist, High Toynton has collapsed. The church appeared in a couple of our features including a list of Doubly Thankful villages. Our hearts go out to those working hard to protect the building. 📷 @HorncastlePol pic.twitter.com/CiZyEESLXW

And by a geographic quirk of fate, 5 miles away is the equally picturesque #Glouncestshire village of Upper Slaughter There are no memorials there:it was one of the few ‘doubly thankful’ villages in #WW1 & #WW2 where no one became a fatality of either war Both are worth a visit pic.twitter.com/WPkNeXCPN7

Brilliant evening with the Draycott and Rodney Stoke @WomensInstitute. Rodney Stoke was one of the few Thankful Villages in the country who saw all their young men return after WW1. And I had to judge their monthly theme contributions too! @cwgc #remembranceis #ourworkcontinues pic.twitter.com/fUwdaoAYKf

🎄Day 23 of our #Shropshire advent calendar takes us to Harley, with Wenlock Edge seen in the distance. Harley is one of the so-called Thankful Villages, which saw all its men return home safely from the First World War.🎅 pic.twitter.com/K4vLssZ6iM

THANKFUL VILLAGE Our village is one of around 50 so-called ‘Thankful Villages’ where all members of the armed forces survived World War 1. This bench is the mid point of my morning walk and a good place to reflect. @TheAgentPhil @Molly__Crawford @TransworldBooks @WaterstonesMK pic.twitter.com/gvsXoezXOo
