Either way this is gonna be historic. If the court says there is ‘no risk of genocide,’ then Israel will know it can continue murdering innocent civilians under cover of international law, and it will empower tyrants and dictators the world over for years to come. In short, this bleak, broken world of ours will become even darker, even more dangerous. If they rule to stop Israel, it unequivocally shows Israel cannot ethnically cleanse Gaza, and means US military support has to end (as they are subject to ICJ rulings, being a UN member), or at least change form, and so this could be a big step towards a free and sovereign Palestinian state. It’s so big, I can’t help but think the Empire will win and humanity will lose—but Israel’s guilt is so obvious to anyone reading and watching along, and the cost so great in terms of precedents set, that I cling to glimmers of hope in spite of myself. Please, fuck, please let justice prevail.
