Links to some free and demo-version LUFS meters below. Honestly I can't master without an LUFS meter these days: transom.org/2015/the-audio…

With the release of the Avedis E27 plug-in, I did some extensive tests this morning, comparing in-the-box mastering vs. analog mastering.
2016-01-23 06:21:42Plug-ins I used for the main bus: PSP E27; UAD Fatso Jr; SSL Duende Native Bus comp. Hardware: Avedis E27; EL7 Fatso Jr; SSL FX-G384 comp.
2016-01-23 06:22:32I was hoping that the plug-ins would produce a competitive sound as it would speed up my workflow considerably. They're not quite there yet.

I've tried just about every reverb plug-in, fell in-and-out of love many times, but the PhoenixVerb has me awestruck exponentialaudio.com/phoenixverb-st…
2016-02-22 02:01:51Reverbs are extremely important in mixing, especially vocals, and so many 'verbs sound like sandpaper to me. PhoenixVerb is something else.
2016-02-22 02:03:39The most complex drum sound is the snare, and that’s because it has 4 sections: pulse (body), smack (bang), wires (buzz) and head (texture).
2016-02-22 02:15:26The pulse of the snare drum is located in the 200-400 Hz range. The smack is 1-2 kHz. The wires around 3-5 kHz, and the head 6-10 kHz.
2016-02-22 02:15:56Your EQ approach for snare should address all 4 of these ranges, something like +3 at 250 Hz; +4 at 2.0 kHz; +3 at 4 kHz; and +4 at 8 kHz.
2016-02-22 02:16:02@daddykev thanks for the heads up. have you got to try the Eventide stuff?
2016-02-22 02:06:26@lp1886 Yep I dig Eventide too, but the PhoenixVerb is my #1 now.
2016-02-22 02:08:40@daddykev any tips on losing that metallic-sounding aspect?
2016-02-22 02:09:16@daddykev have you tried the waves abbey road plate reverb? Was just looking into it.
2016-02-22 02:11:04@ZForbesOfficial Yeah, just copped it. Impressive for sure. Very smooth, but not as versatile as the PhoenixVerb.
2016-02-22 02:17:50@daddykev do you rate Valhalla vintage verb? Current favorite.
2016-02-22 02:51:31@eprombeats I dig that one too. Reminded me of the UAD Lexicon 224, which is another great one, but I find the PhoenixVerb to be superior.
