アラビアンツイート (A Thousand And One Tweets)

Rough log of longterm fun-poking match with Qatari trilinguial (AR/EN/JP) @FahadAlAssiry. Logger (@Garyou_Tensei) is a freelance JtoE/EtoJ game translator. As this common affinity for (video) games was the initial conversation starter, the dialogue contains frequent game-related references. A story of sustainable inspiration. カタール在住トライリンガル(アラビア語/英語/日本語)の「ドーハの同輩」@FahadAlAssiryさんとの往復書簡的なネタの振り合いの記録。 投稿者(@Garyou_Tensei続きを読む

Question while I have your attention (assuming here!). How much info does Arabic allow in a single tweet, compared to EN/JP? @FahadAlAssiry

Fahad AlAssiry @FahadAlAssiry

Somewhere in between the two.. Closer to EN. RT @Garyou_Tensei How much info does Arabic allow in a single tweet, compared to EN/JP?

Arabic has more potential than English to say a lot with cleverly chosen words, but nowhere near the Behemoth 日本語 or 中国語 @Garyou_Tensei

@Garyou_Tensei This one had high INT so I started with a "Force Bash" with my Mythril Slippers and ended it with a "Tissue Crush".

Nice combo there. A tad TMI, but nice nevertheless ;D @FahadAlAssiry >"Force Bash" with Mythril Slippers and ended it with a "Tissue Crush".

@Garyou_Tensei You've gotta work with what you've got, my flamethrower was stashed far away in the attic.

@Garyou_Tensei Putting my specifics into context, what's your impression on me using ”僕” in a sentence? 変でしょうか。 @Ra_ed

2010-11-22 02:19:05
Garyou Tensei @Garyou_Tensei

Feels just about right, assuming you're more or less around my age (20s to late 30s). RT @FahadAlAssiry >me using 僕 in a sentence @Ra_ed

Garyou Tensei @Garyou_Tensei

In a more professional or formal context, "私" (watashi or watakushi, latter is more formal) should suit you fine IMHO. @FahadAlAssiry

2010-11-22 02:28:31
Garyou Tensei @Garyou_Tensei

I use Watashi over the phone/e-mail with work counterparts, but prefer Boku when tweeting. Fits my self-image better. @FahadAlAssiry @Ra_ed

Fahad AlAssiry @FahadAlAssiry

@Garyou_Tensei I was told I should use 私、or maybe even わし! @Ra_ed

2010-11-22 02:30:02
Garyou Tensei @Garyou_Tensei

Washi IMHO is usually used by stereotypically elderly males or (somewhat) comically energetic middle-aged women. @FahadAlAssiry @Ra_ed

2010-11-22 02:34:23
Garyou Tensei @Garyou_Tensei

Watashi is catch-all, can't-go-too-wrong. Boku is more casual, friendly, down-to-earth, somewhat humble. @FahadAlAssiry @Ra_ed
